This is one of the Tutorials people have been asking me to do but I have not used flowery pattern or sprouting leaves.

This time, I used a sketch, something different, simple to show how to create different elements of the sketch.

Hope it helps someone out there.

Enjoy this Write-On Effect Tutorial. I will do more using Text and other elements.

    Great tutorial man, but iv got a question.

    You have to copy/paste the Mask + the Mask Path, but in my After Effects theres no Mask Path, it says Mask Shape were you have the Mask Path. Do you know how to solve that?

    p.s-i gotta ask- if i need to do a "write on", on a THICKer image? i mean...i wanna reveal something that isnt "pencil" thin..but rather thick as a Huge "brush flow"!

    If you're interested in seeing this effect DualAir, I used the technique at the end of my vid "Pellicule", on my channel. You'll notice the "flaw" in the effect too. It's fixable, I just didn't spend the time on it because it was for something rather trivial.

  • An easier way imo ...

    An easier way imo is Vector Paint. It's a simple effect and does exactly that: animate lines like you draw them. (Might be an easier way to go about the video drawing too.) Choose Animate Strokes under Playback Mode in the FX properties and you're done. A downside is that it animates each new line seperately. When you lift your pen to draw a new line, AE will not animate line A and then B. In playback they will both start being drawn at the same time. So you'll need new layers for each stroke.

    The write on effect DualAir might not be for you. What I would do is export the movie as sequences. What you wish to do is what is called Rotroscoping. Where you export each frame out and draw on top of each frame in maybe Photoshop. It is an extremely tedious process but rewarding when done. Google rotroscoping or go to a website called Creative Cow . net

    hasunit, save them as PDF LAYERS. Import in after effects and you will get a window (look at this video from 1.07 and you will see a window come up. Choose COMPOSITION not Footage. And click on Editable Layer Styles.

    Come back to me if it works. Also, what version of after effects are you using. I am on CS3. Should really work on other version too.
